An island country made up of 63 islands, it is separated from Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to its north and from Indonesia's Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to its south. bohol : the island paradise

i was really excited about this trip, because it is the first time that i'm gonna be traveling with my family. i was excited more about the kids, it was their first airplane ride. i remember my nephew louie asking me why do airplanes have eyes and nose, but do not have ears. haha. so cute.

i really wanted to go to bohol not with my friends but with my family. i don't know, i just feel that bohol is perfect for a family getaway. i have planned everything ahead, as early as the first quarter of the year. the trip was last august 10-13.

our stay in bohol was extraordinary. we had fun!

background
bohol is an island province of the philippines located in the central visayas region, consisting of bohol island and 75 minor surrounding islands. its capital is tagbilaran city. with a land area of 4,117.26 square kilometres (1,589.68 sq mi) and a coastline 261 kilometres (162 mi) long, bohol is the tenth largest island of the philippines. to the west of bohol is cebu, to the northeast is the island of leyte and to the south, across the bohol sea is mindanao.

the province is a popular tourist destination with its beaches and resorts. the chocolate hills, numerous mounds of limestone formation, is the most popular attraction. panglao island, located just southwest of tagbilaran city, is famous for its diving locations and routinely listed as one of the top ten diving locations in the world. numerous tourist resorts dot the southern beaches and cater to divers from around the world. the philippine tarsier, considered the second-smallest primate in the world, is indigenous to the island.

boholanos refer to their island homeland as the "republic of bohol" with both conviction and pride. a narrow strait separates the island of cebu and bohol and both share a common language, but the boholanos retain a conscious distinction from the cebuanos. bohol's climate is generally dry, with maximum rainfall between the months of june and october. the interior is cooler than the coast. (source: wikipedia)

how to get there
we booked at cebu pacific, manila to tagbilaran city which took 1 hour and 15 minutes of travel. it is always the most convenient way to travel. bohol can also be reached through a ferry but will take longer travel time, less than 24 hours i guess. another way is having a connecting flight to cebu, then travel by boat to bohol.

coron : a bliss of palawan

another back track. ;p we were in palawan last february 3-6, 2011, 4days and 3 nights. at first i was not sure on what to expect, because when it comes to palawan it is often about puerto princesa or el nido. but the very moment i set foot in coron, i instantly knew how wonderful this place is... simply stunning.

coron signage. parang hollywood. hehe

you will not find any fastfood chain or mall in coron. typical province set-up. no sun cellular signal, only globe and smart. buti talaga may globe ako besides sun. di ba bestfriend? ;p

the airport - francisco b. reyes airport is a domestic airport, serving the whole area of coron, as well as the neighboring municipality of busuanga. mejo manual process pa sila dito, from checking of bags to issuance of airport tickets, etc. terminal fee is only 20 pesos, only 10% of naia's. :) when we arrived, everyone has to write some info on a piece of paper, stating your name, and the place where you will be staying.

almost 80% in our flight were foreigners. this just goes to show that coron is really a popular travel destination.

there were foreigners!

background
coron is a first class municipality in the province of palawan, philippines. according to the 2000 census, it has a population of 32,243 people in 6,264 households.
the municipality covers part of busuanga island and all of the nearby coron island. both islands are part of the calamian group of islands in northern palawan. the main industries of coron are fishing and tourism, being a popular diving location.

the aquatic views from the sunken japanese warships off coron island are listed in forbes traveler magazine’s top 10 best scuba diving sites in the world.

in 1950 the town of busuanga was created from the barrios of concepcion, salvacion, busuanga, new busuanga, buluang, quezon, calawit, and cheey which used to belong to coron.

in 1954, the islands of linapacan, cabunlaoan, niangalao, decabayotot, calibanbangan, pical, and barangonan were separated from coron to form the town of linapacan, palawan. (source: wikipedia)

good sites to visit are in coron islands. while coron town is on busuanga island. you should not get confused. ^_^

how to get there
there are everyday flights through cebu pacific, zest air, air philippines and philippine airlines. it is just a one-hour flight from manila to busuanga and vise versa. ticket prices vary. from cebu pacific we were able to book for P2,758.56 each, roundtrip. this was a 999 promo (one way), plus taxes and other fees.
francisco b. reyes airport

you can also reach busuanga via superferry which has a once week schedule trip to coron. i am not sure about other shipping lines though.

itinerary
below is our planned itinerary for the 4days 3 nights stay. but due to the weather condition and unavoidable occurrences, we had no choice but to skip some and adjust the schedule.

checkin at st. louie terraces lodging house

budget
st. louie's lodge offered a package of P7,289 per person - 4 pax. this includes island hopping day tours which include full board meals, banca & guide's fees, Inland transport and shuttle service for airport pick up and departure transfers. only the entrance fees are excluded. but our group opt not to avail the package but do a diy trip instead. but it wasn't a do-it-yourself trip at all, because the lodge almost arranged everything for us. let's see my total costing.

port transfers (to/from) - 300
hotel - 1275 (1700 pernight, 4 pax)
entrance fees - 700
snorkeling gears - 300 (2days)
calauit tour - 1800
boat rental - #
videoke sa lodge - 480
* 4 bottles of beer and 1 plate of peanut
kitchen fee - 150 (nagpaluto kasi kami)
guide fee - #
transfer fees - # (tricycle ito)
food - #
pasalubong - 2000

# - i can't remember the exact amount. let's just say that i have P10,000 in my pocket for this trip. i went home with more than just a hundred pesos left. :(

if this was a totally diy trip, P7000 budget for coron is enough. ride a tricycle on your own (P10), look for a boat for your island hopping. madami naman sa port e. and you won't need a tour guide, trust me. he/she will just go swimming and eating with you. additional expense pa. if you wanna know some cool trivia about the place, ask the boatmen. sa kanila na lang kayo makipagkwentuhan. hehehe.

although the trip has been a little bit expensive, seeing the islands of coron is worth it. it is truly a tourism wonder - known for its untouched and extraordinary beauty. :)

davao city : dakbayan sa dabaw!

back track ito. we spent 3 days and 2 nights in davao - october 8-10, 2010. i'll try to remember things as detailed as possible. pero goodluck naman, makakalimutin ako e. hehehe... this was my very first travel. first plane experience! i was so scared, takot kasi ako sa heights. thanks to my bestfriend, chineer nya ko. hehe. at hindi ko makakalimutan ang super sakit kong tenga mga 30mins before magland sa davao.

bestie at davao airport. welcome to davao!

hmm, seems i won't be able to specify the exact and total expenses. but this was a diy (do it yourself) trip. we were composed of 5 pips. just a city tour, wala naman beach. if you'll go to davao for a beach experience, you should visit samal island. according to some reviews, pearl farm is great.

background
the city of davao (tagalog: lungsod ng dabaw; cebuano: dakbayan sa dabaw) is the largest citymindanao in the philippines. its international airport and seaports are among the busiest cargo hubs in the philippines.

davao city is also one of several cities in the philippines that are independent of any province. the city serves as the regional center for davao region (region xi). it has a population of 1,464,301 (2010 census), making it the country's second largest city, and is named by the foreign direct investment magazine as the 10th "asian city of the future". in recent years, davao city has emerged as the business, investment and tourism hub for the entire southern philippines. the city has good beaches and mountain resorts, and is close to diving spots and the highest peak in the philippines, mount apo. it is awarded by the department of tourism as the most livable city in the philippines in 2008. (source: wikipedia)

let us not forget that davao city is the home of the famous durian! when you are out on the streets, you can smell its, uhm... aroma. ;p

and yeah, davao is a smoke-free city. bawal magyosi lang basta!

how to get to davao city
sympre easiest yung by air. we booked at cebu pacific, 1 hour and 45 minutes ang travel time. may 999 na seatsale that time, our total fare - P4,652.48 (for me and bestie, so P2326.24 each, roundtrip). our plane left manila at pass 4 in the morning, and arrived at francisco bangoy international airport at 5:45am.
